My Name Is Watson and
This is My Website.

Welcome to Watson Rules.

That's me on the left and my Dad on the right. He's a biker and I'm a Jack Russell. My Mom is much better looking than Dad.

Now that I'm retired I decided to build a website to share my memories with my friends and family.

The Rescue at Rainbow Bridge

Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All the recent arrivals were confused and concerned. They had no idea what to think for they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had spent some time waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was happening and began to gather at the pathway leading to the Bridge to watch. They knew this was something special.

It wasn't too long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung heavy and low with tail dragging along the ground. The other animals on the pathway...the ones who had been at Rainbow Bridge for a while...knew the story of this sad creature immediately. They had seen it happen far too many times.

Although it was obvious the animal's heart was leaden and he was totally overcome with emotional pain and hurt, there was no sign of injury or any illness. Unlike the pets waiting at the Bridge, this dog had not been restored to his prime. He was full of neither health nor vigor. He approached slowly and painfully, watching all the pets who were by now watching him. He knew he was out of place here. This was no resting place for him. He felt instinctively that the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be. But alas, as he came closer to the Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel who spoke softly to the old dog and apologized sorrowfully, telling him that he would not be able to pass. Only those animals who were with their special people could pass over the Rainbow Bridge. And he had no special beloved people...not here at the Bridge nor on Earth below.

With no place else to turn, the poor elderly dog looked toward the fields before the Bridge. There, in a separate area nearby, he spotted a group of other sad-eyed animals like himself...elderly and infirm. Unlike the pets waiting for their special people, these animals weren't playing, but simply lying on the green grass, forlornly and miserably staring out at the pathway leading to the Bridge. The recent arrival knew he had no choice but to join them.

And so, he took his place among them, just watching the pathway and waiting.

One of the newest arrivals at the Bridge, who was waiting for his special people, could not understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the pets who had been there for some time to explain it to him.

"That poor dog was a rescue, sent to the pound when his owner grew tired of him. The way you see him now, with graying fur and sad, cloudy eyes, was exactly the way he was when he was put into the kennels. He never, ever made it out and passed on only with the love and comfort that the kennel workers could give him as he left his miserable and unloved existence on Earth for good. Because he had no family or special person to give his love, he has nobody to escort him across the Bridge."

The first animal thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what will happen now?"

As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted and the all-invasive gloom lifted. Coming toward the Bridge could be seen a single figure....a person who, on Earth, had seemed quite ordinary...a person who, just like the elderly dog, had just left Earth forever. This figure turned toward a group of the sad animals and extended outstretched palms. The sweetest sounds they had ever heard echoed gently above them and all were bathed in a pure and golden light. Instantly, each was young and healthy again, just as they had been in the prime of life.

From within the gathering of pets waiting for their special people, a group of animals emerged and moved toward the pathway. As they came close to the passing figure, each bowed low and each received a tender pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. Their eyes grew even brighter as the figure softly murmured each name. Then, the newly-restored pets fell into line behind the figure and quietly followed this person to the Bridge, where they all crossed together.

The recent arrival who had been watching, was amazed. "What happened?"

"That was a rescuer," came the answer. "That person spent a lifetime trying to help pets of all kinds. The ones you saw bowing in respect were those who found new homes because of such unselfish work. They will cross when their families arrive. Those you saw restored were ones who never found homes.

When a rescuer arrives, they are permitted to perform one, final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor pets that couldn't place on Earth across the Rainbow Bridge. You see, all animals are special to them...just as they are special to all animals."

"I think I like rescuers," said the recent arrival.

"So does God," was the reply.

Getting Old Isn't Easy.

Watson's Coat

One day you wake up and realize you're older than your parents. Since I retired I've lost my hearing and came down with diabetes. Its all part of the aging process and I'm just happy to have made it this far along. Then a few months after I started insulin my cataracts got worse and I ended up completely blind. I may not be able to read the paper anymore but I still know how to have a good time. Check out the great coat my dad got me the other day. Lucille is really jealous, so I know it must look great. You can find this apparel at the Thankful Paws Website. Tell them Watson sent you!

Lucille and I
Goodbye Thomasina and Smokey

Our Friend Wilma lives in Kansas with a bunch of cats. Wilma has a big heart and a real soft spot for strays and other homeless critters. Her door is always open for these unfortunate creatures. Recently two of her furbabies crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Farewell Thomasina and Smoky, we'll see you again at the Rainbow Bridge.

Farewell Ishmay

Friday, May 23, 2008 Our Friend Ismay Crossed Over to the Rainbow Bridge. We miss her terribly. She left her footprints in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Goodbye Tora

Thursday, February 5, 2009 we bid Farewell to our friend Tora. He was a good boy, faithful friend and companion to his parents Mike and Noriko. He shared their home for thirteen years, helped bring joy to their lives and was a loving companion for Larry and Kumi as they grew up.

Dogs are famous for their sense of humor!

A long time ago dogs were told that a day would come when a King of Dogs would be born. This King would teach them how to drive a car themselves. He would also show them how to open refrigerator doors and cook for themselves. He would give them all pockets so they could carry around important dog stuff. He would lead them in a way that dogs would soon rule the world.

Those hearty dogs of old were told that they would know when the King of Dogs had arrived because his butt would smell sweeter than roses. And that is why dogs today are still sniffing butts. They haven't found the king yet.

Now it appears some great leaders in this country have taken up the quest.

Big Friends

One thing I've learned is to make friends who are bigger than yourself. It is always good to cultivate friendships that can help you out later in life. The video clip attached is of me and some of my big friends from Ohio. I met them on a trip there with my folks in 1996. The guy was pretty huge, but didn't know what to do with a ball. Dad kept calling him hamburger. I thought that was an odd name for a dog.

Amuse Yourself

I've been all over the country. I enjoy camping out with my folks. One thing I've learned about camping is that often I have to amuse myself. My folks are usually busy setting up the dog house and foraging for food. You don't need much, a ball is usually sufficient. Here we were in San Felipi State Park, Texas. I had to do with what was available.

Birthday Party

"baby picture"

A long time ago I celebrated my second birthday with some friends. My folks went all out and put on a great spread for me and my buddies. They wore silly hats and we just put up with their foolishness. The day started out real slow, but by evening we were all pretty worn out.

The photo on the left was right after I opened my eyes for the first time. I was about 8 weeks old here and still getting used to running the household. By time my second birthday came around I was in charge and knew everything.

Playing Soccer

I've always been an athlete. I enjoy playing any game where a ball is involved. But my favorite has always been soccer. There's nothing like a good workout to get the appetite going.

Kittens

When I first arrived on the scene my folks had cats. Lots of cats. As I grew up some of my best friends were cats. My favorite was Milkbone. This video is some of Milkbone's children playing in the back yard. Eventually they all left home and now my house is cat-free.

Water Sports

We have a pool in my back yard. Everyone likes to spend a lot of time there in the summer. My folks had it dug for me so we could play ball. We lounge around it a lot when it is too hot to go to the park.

Surfing

Sometimes a dog just likes to surf. My folks take good care of me. I surf with my umbrella to protect me from the harmful rays of the sun and my own boombox to jam to.

The Cookie Monster

She can hear the cookie jar from the back bedroom.

Baby Sister

I didn't like my sister, Lucille, when I first met her. She was pushy, bossy and wouldn't leave me alone. This is a video of her when she first came home.
